FIR filed against social media user for 'Lewd' remark on Captain Anshuman Singh's Widow
The Delhi Police have taken action on a complaint filed by the National Commission for Women (NCW) and registered a First Information Report (FIR) against a social media user. The complaint pertains to derogatory comments made against Smriti Singh, the widow of Captain Anshuman Singh, a Kirti Chakra awardee posthumously.
Details of the FIR
The FIR was lodged by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operation (IFSO) unit under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act. Specifically, the accused has been charged under Section 79 of the BNS for intending to insult the modesty of a woman and Section 67 of the IT Act for transmitting obscene material electronically.

The NCW took suo motu cognisance of the incident and filed the complaint, urging the Delhi Police Commissioner for prompt action, including the arrest of the accused. They also demanded a comprehensive report on the matter within three days.
Background of Captain Anshuman Singh
Captain Anshuman Singh tragically lost his life while on duty in a fire incident at an Indian Army ammunition depot in Siachen Glacier last year. Despite the intense blaze and adverse weather conditions, he displayed immense bravery by rescuing individuals and attempting to retrieve critical medical supplies from the burning facility. For his courageous actions, he was posthumously honored with the Kirti Chakra, a prestigious gallantry award, which was received by his widow, Smriti Singh, and mother, Manju Singh, from President Draupadi Murumu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on July 5.
